Your essential checklist for Vocational Education in 2019

1. Help celebrate those who have achieved success in Vocational Education and Training

Nominations for the 2019 Australian Training Awards and Queensland Training Awards are now open. If you know any students, trainers or RTOs who deserve acknowledgement, start early and nominate them.

2. Help promote the 2019 Student Outcomes Survey

Encourage your students to participate in the National Student Outcomes Survey and follow its progress. The survey is used to collect data on VET students’ training satisfaction, employment outcomes and whether they’ve gone onto further study. By helping to promote this survey, you will ensure that more data is collected, increasing the quality of any findings. These findings help you and the whole sector improve.

3. Have your say in the Australian Government’s review of the VET sector

The Australian Government’s review of the VET sector is currently accepting public submissions until the 25th January.

The review aims to find how the government’s investment in VET could be more effective. This will ensure that Australians have the skills they need to have a successful working life.

4. Familiarise yourself with the latest research surrounding VET in schools

According to research conducted by Flinders University, almost 50% of Australian senior secondary students participate in VET in schools (VETis) in some way. The research suggests that people who undertake school-based traineeships have higher completion rates than those who complete post-school traineeships, especially females.

5. Check out the RTO hub

NCVER’s RTO hub has fact sheets, policy guidelines and other resources designed to support RTOs.

6. Add National Careers Week to your calendar

This year National Careers Week will be held during 13-19 May. Save the date, become a partner, subscribe to updates or register your event at careersweek.com.au.

7. Have a look at the NCVER VET Calendar

The NCVER website has a calendar which highlights the VET conferences taking place this year. If you’re attending any of the following conferences, make sure you stop by and say hello to us.

9. Understand the trends affecting vocational education

Engage better with your students by understanding the future trends affecting vocational education. As expected, one of the trends is an increase in elearning, including blended learning. Another emerging trend is employees requiring a hybrid set of skills, emphasising the need for more flexible learning.
